BUSINESS SYSTEMS ANALYST - MECHANICSBURG, PA 
 
SUMMARY: Reporting to the IT Manager, the Business Systems Analyst will assist, under general supervision, in the analysis and implementation of selected software applications and business solutions that improve effectiveness and efficiency of service, methods, workflow, systems, and business processes for NORCAL and its customers.  Develops user test plans, coordinates required testing, and directly participates in the testing itself.
  
Essential Functions:

  • Conducts interviews, meetings, workflow analysis and walk through to define and validate systems and user requirements.
  • Defines and documents detailed functional specifications.
  • Participates in the development of project requirements, specifications, and plans.
  • Provides systems and non-systems alternatives to address defined business requirements.
  • Assists in implementing approved business process changes.
  • Serves as a resource to the user departments.
  • Develops position specific training plans, participates and assists in vendor training.
  • Participates in the systems conversion and all related implementation activities as outlined in the project plan. 
  • Reports project status and recommends corrective action as appropriate.
  • Has authority to report project related issues/concerns and recommends corrective action.
  • Prepares user instruction materials and provides ongoing training.
  • Provides ongoing user support.
  • Fiscal Responsibilities:  N/A
  • Supervisory Responsibilities:  N/A  
  • Expenses:  Employees must be able to pay for certain business expenses in advance.  Examples include such items as airline tickets, rental cars, hotel deposits, seminar registrations, etc.  Employees are eligible for reimbursement for such expenses through NORCAL’s Expense Reimbursement Policy.
  • Required Driving:  N/A

Physical/Environmental Working Conditions:

  • General office environment is primarily sedentary work which requires the following physical activities: standing, sitting, walking, reaching, lifting, finger dexterity, grasping, repetitive motions, talking, hearing and visual acuity.
  • The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds.
  • Exposure to LCD on a daily basis.
  • A moderate noise level is usual.

Education:

  • BA/BS or equivalent work related experience in area of expertise required as well as industry education.

Experience Required:

  • A minimum of 3 years Medical Malpractice or P&C experience

Skills Required:

  • Working knowledge of PC and network environments.
  • Strong verbal and written communications skills.
  • Strong teamwork and people skills.
  • Prior business systems analysis and/or Information Systems experience including development and documentation of functional business specifications, systems testing, training, and project implementation.
  • Experience in Insurance Underwriting, Finance or Claims including an understanding of NORCAL’s business processes and support needs.
